Children's Respite and Healing Centre

Appin Hall Children's Foundation

Give a One Off Donation Give a Regular Donation
Appin Hall Children's Foundation (AH), in Tasmania's northwest, was founded by Ronnie and Maggie Burns as a Respite, Healing and Educational Centre for young people requiring support in our communities.

AH offers its unique facility and services to children and young adults from all backgrounds, cultures and religions, who require respite from serious illness, poverty, physical/emotional trauma, grief, recovery from surgery, homelessness, and youngsters who are Primary Carers for other family members.

'User Groups' include (but are not limited to) - CanTeen, Camp Quality, Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania, Young Carers (Australia), Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, and school groups (camps) from low socio-economic communities Australia-wide.

The current Centre accommodates up to 30 children at any one time, but the long-term objective of this project is to build a large self-sustainable village capable of accommodating 130 children. This model (unprecedented in Australia) will comprise strong educational components designed to teach children positive life skills, reconnect them with family, the wider community and the natural environment.

AH's uniqueness lies in its ability to provide a loving, homely environment rather than an 'institution' type facility. With the natural world at its doorstep, the centre offers 'quiet space' for reflection and recuperation, and 'community space' for sharing ideas, experiences and support.
