Ten years ago, over one million Australians marched in support of reconciliation. But today injustices are disadvantage still cast their shadow over Indigenous - non-Indigenous relations in Australia; little progress has been made towards recognition and respect for Indigenous peoples.
So this year ANTaR calls for a year of recommitment to reconciliation. We are providing opportunities for all those who marched in support of reconciliation to re-engage with the movement. We are launching projects to capture the enthusiasm of those who did not march ten years ago, but who can now share our vision. We are demonstrating to the government that Australians have not forgotten or abandoned the promises made in 2000. And we are asking for your support!
How will the funds be used?
"Are we there yet?" is a dynamic campaign aimed at rejuvenating the movement for reconciliation and treaty. We are working on:
- A short professional film by an Indigenous artist, to draw attention to the unfinished business of reconciliation
- A short film festival on the topic of reconciliation, encouraging Indigenous and non-Indigenous film students to collaborate on an artistic project for a common goal
- A 'virtual bridge walk' which will allow people to register their commitment to reconciliation
- Running events at which the whole community can demonstrate their support for reconciliation
- Strengthening our call for Treaty by re-doubling our efforts to fill our Treaty Scroll petition with 2020 thumbprints by 2011!
