The Australian Society for Performing Arts Healthcare (ASPAH) is the national peak body concerning itself with promoting health and wellbeing in the performing arts at all levels, from student to amateur to professional. ASPAH believes that the vitality of the arts within a society is wholly dependent on the wellbeing and health of its artists, and that this wellbeing is critically important. As such, it serves the needs of three main groups of people: 1) artists themselves - musicians, dancers, actors, circus performers; 2) performing arts and healthcare educators - private, school, university; 3) healthcare practitioners - including doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, voice specialists, chiropractors, psychologists, alternative practitioners, and others.
All funds donated through this appeal will be used to directly advance ASPAH's vision of creating a sustainable, healthy environment for performing artists in Australia. Funds may be directed towards establishing or fostering one or more of the following:
In 2011, the ASPAH national executive committee met in Sydney to determine key areas of focus for the society. Based on members' feedback (both informally and through an online "Needs Survey" conducted in 2009), the Society has committed to advance on three major fronts: 1) compiling a directory of health services for performing artists; 2) developing a new, dynamic, interactive website with educational and informational resources; and 3) growing its annual conference to an event of international significance. These are likely to be key areas of expenditure for donations made through this appeal, significantly advancing ASPAH's ability to achieve its vision.
