UNHCR is delivering life-saving aid
Australia for UNHCR - www.UNrefugees.org.au
Some 1,400 people have been killed and an incredible 12 million affected by the devastating floods in Pakistan's north west.
UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency, was the first agency delivering emergency relief supplies to the flood victims.
Our Emergency Response Team has already dispatched 25,000 tents, 380,000 blankets, 126,000 plastic tarpaulins, 100,000 mattresses and 25,000 kitchen sets and 20,000 food parcels. But much more is needed.
It is estimated that more than 248,000 homes have been completely swept away in the floods, and the number of people made homeless is rising. There have also been outbreaks of water-borne diseases such as cholera, which could threaten many more lives.
UNHCR is leading the joint UN response in the areas of emergency shelter and camp management, and is recognised as an expert in Emergency Response.
We plan to assist at least 350,000 of the most vulnerable people over the coming days, providing tents, plastic sheeting, blankets, kitchen sets, food parcels and Emergency Survival Kits to families in need. UNHCR will also be there to support the displaced population as they rebuild their lives over the coming months.
Just $125 can provide an Emergency Survival Kit, giving a family of five the essentials of shelter and protection.
