Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) has listed 1 other cause:
Give a One Off Donation Give a Regular Donation
In recent years we have found that early diagnosis and treatment is the best chance for children with autism to learn to manage and overcome their disability.

"Someone to turn to..." is an important part of Aspect's initiative to reach more children with autism spectrum disorders and provide support for their families along with opportunities to access services.

Supporting families with a newly diagnosed child...

Aspect's aim is to provide families, who have a newly diagnosed child with an autism spectrum disorder, with support from volunteer "older" families who have been trained to provide information and support alongside professional staff.

Because of their own experience as parents of children with autism the "older" parents will be able to empathise with the distress and confusion experienced by the "new" parents. They will be trained to provide emotional support as well as helping the families understand their child's disability, and access information on professional support and services.

Your donation will help us develop and implement this valuable service and provide for the recruitment and training of additional volunteers.
