Each week, Story Dogs volunteers visit schools carrying books, literacy resources and reading materials that help children build confidence through reading.

Our trained volunteer handlers and their Story Dogs work one-on-one with children in a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment where reading becomes less stressful and more enjoyable.

To deliver these sessions, volunteers need practical resources they can transport easily between schools and reading sessions. Story Dogs backpacks help carry books matched to reading levels, literacy games, activity sheets and session materials used to support children each week.

Today, Story Dogs supports more than 2,935 children across 420 schools throughout Australia, helping children improve literacy skills, confidence and engagement at school.
