Foodbank NT and Food for Life are initiatives of Baptist Care NT. Baptist Care NT identified food rescue and redistribution as a gap in local service provision and an area of need for local welfare and community organisations, as well as individuals. Baptist Care NT exists to express God's love in addressing profound human social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs, through direct support services, advocacy and encouraging self -sufficiency, empowerment and community development. This is achieved in partnership with churches where possible and the wider community where appropriate.
Foodbank NT is a member of a national group of affiliated Foodbanks that include operations in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia.
Foodbank Australia is a not-for-profit, non-denominational organisation which collects surplus, salvaged and donated food and grocery products from food manufacturers, distributors & retailers and distributes it via charitable welfare organisations to people in need.
Last year Australia wide saw Foodbank distribute 16 million kilograms of donated food.
Food for Life is a service that operates through local churches to provide food to individuals experiencing food insecurity. Anyone with a government benefit card can register, collect food and make a donation. People may also be referred by welfare and community aid organisations.
People are offered a cuppa and can have a chat with our volunteers while their food order is being packed. Volunteers are trained to listen, refer to other community services and invite people to church programs.
Baptist Care NT needs funding to establish Food for Life services and maintain its day to day Foodbank NT operations in Darwin. Run predominantly by volunteers, our model is simple and cost-effective. Your generous donation will support our day-to-day operations in Darwin and help welfare and community aid organisations, as well as individuals. Your donation will also assist us to find ways to help people break out of the food poverty cycle.
