Better Hearing General Appeal

We are an independent non-profit organisation providing free information and advice for people, their families and colleagues on hearing loss management. We have qualified aural rehabilitation specialists who provide independent and current information, advice and training in all aspects of hearing loss management and hearing health care. This enables more informed decision making about managing hearing loss and other ear problems. Common requests for information and advice include obtaining a hearing test (we provide free hearing screenings), qualifications and locations of service providers, hearing processes and hearing test results (audiogram), types and features of hearing aids, consumer protection relating to the purchase of hearing aids and other technology, assistive technology demonstrations (telephones, television, personal listening, music, safety and alerting, with and without hearing aids), and communication strategies. We also provide a Community Assistance Scheme which offers people on low incomes, hearing aid assistance from a hearing aid bank of reconditioned hearing aids.

Printing of information resources such as our Hearing Loss Management kit and Hearing Advisory Services brochure.

Purchase/maintenance of hearing aid equipment such as mobile hearing screening equipment which enables screenings throughout Victoria, especially regional areas.

Continued provision of:

• staff and workplace hearing loss management training
• hearing loss sessions for training organisations such as TAFE colleges and other training organisations (e.g. Aged Care and Nursing students)
• hearing loss management - aural rehabilitation workshops and training
• hearting tests and information throughout Victoria
• Hearing Aid Bank and Community Assistance scheme
