The problem

For many of us, access to education is a given, taken for granted. But for some communities in Kenya and Ghana less than 10% of children have access to education beyond year 8, mainly due to the lack of finance. This affects the next generation of leaders: a well educated generation breads leaders for tomorrow.

We're here to change that for the most talented and hard working students. We're not big, but we're brave. Brave enough to try and help break the poverty cycle for kids in Kenya and Ghana. Brave enough to stand up to our belief that aid should not be free but should be earned and desired. Brave enough to believe that an education should not be a dream. Brave enough to break the mould and look for a local solution to a local problem. A long term solution that is focused on developing the next generation of future leaders.

What we do?

Our goal is to inspire generational change. By providing primary school students with access to a comprehensive education and a local mentor, we're enabling them to pursue a career and become leaders in their communities. We are providing them with the means to generate an income, to afford food, shelter, health care and an education for their children in the future. This is where the cycle of poverty ends.

We help talented African students get access to the education they deserve and develop them into future leaders.

In Kenya and Ghana the government guarantees access to primary school education, but the subsidy provided for high school requires families to pay up to $300 a term for their children to continue their education. This leads to frightening dropout rates right from primary to high schoolAs few as 1 in 10 students in some communities are able to attend high school. Talented students who are able to complete high school are then eligible for further government grants for university levels. However, given the high drop-out rate at the high school level, the level of university graduates in Africa remains low.

Beyond Eight is the bridge between primary and tertiary education, giving exceptional primary school students access to high school and tertiary education, as well as mentoring, leadership training and private tuition that will develop them into future leaders.
