For a child with no education, there is little opportunity to pull themselves out of poverty. They are extremely vulnerable and limited choices can expose them to gender based violence, health risks and abuse. Girls are most at risk, as when there is a choice, boys will be encouraged to stay in school. For this reason, our work focuses on young women.
 

Since 2005, Cambodian Kids Can has worked to provide girls from Prey Veng, Cambodia with a safe and nurturing home (Mekhala House), health care and educational assistance to complete Secondary School. We then offer continued support if they wish to pursue their dreams at university through our University Sponsorship program.  

Cambodian Kids Can commits to supporting these girls from the time they arrive at Mekhala House, until they complete their education, removing barriers and eliminating the cost so they can focus on their learning and contribute to a community that values education.

Cambodian Kids Can is uniquely positioned to implement this program as we have worked in the Prey Veng region for over twenty years. This has enabled us to establish strong and trusted relationships with the community.
