CONSERVATION WEEK is a celebration of Western Australia's unique environment and promotes sustainable living for the future.

Conservation Week is organised annually by the Conservation Council of WA to increase community awareness of conservation issues and encourage action for conservation throughout WA. It provides an opportunity for community conservation groups and individuals to actively show their support for a wide spectrum of conservation initiatives, which are communicated through a variety of events and activities during the week.

Since its initiation in 2005 Conservation Week has been growing in popularity within the Western Australian community with over 40 events registered in 2008 all across the state. Conservation Week events have included: conferences, tree planting days, field trips, art displays, photography exhibitions, wetland rehabilitation, open days, workshops, talks, bike rides, clean-up days, festivals plus much more.

These events allow everyone to rejoice in our wonderful environment, while learning about relevant issue. An important objective of this week is to raise funds to support the work of the Conservation Council and, though the council, support the work of its member groups. WE depend on the generosity of environmentally aware individuals to help us promote and protect WA's precious environment. With YOUR SUPPORT we can implement genuine change for the future.

How will the funds be used?

  • Providing support for community groups passionate about protecting our natural environment
  • Promoting biodiversity conservation on public and private land
  • Lobbying for more sustainable planning and transport in our towns and cities
  • Improving salinity control in fragile rural areas
  • Advocating the development of sustainable fisheries in WA's unique marine environments
  • Ensuring sustainable forest management, including protection of our old growth forests
  • Increasing awareness of our precious water resources and aiding future planning so that demand for water does not exceed supply
  • Supporting the shift towards sustainable energy systems and tackling the effects of climate change.
