No Oil for South West Beaches

No Oil for Southwest Beaches is a community campaign to prevent oil drilling in the Mentelle Basin, off the coast of WA's favorite holiday destination, Margaret River.

The massive oil spill in the gulf of Mexico has prompted the US Obama administration to placed a moratorium on all new oil drilling, however the Australian Government have released new oil and gas exploration leases just off the coast of Margaret River, in an area being considered for inclusion in a new network of marine sanctuaries.

The South West marine environment has greater biodiversity than the Great Barrier Reef, however less than 1% of the area is protected.

Funds raised through this site will assist the No Oil for Southwest Beaches community campaign to remove the oil exploration leases from the Mentelle Basin, and instead see the area protected as a marine sanctuary.
