Help us Release Australians from Debt and Poverty

About this cause
Poverty can affect anyone - One in ten Australians live below the poverty line. There are many reasons why people find themselves in debt. It may be due to unemployment, divorce, illness, or simply struggling to budget. Whatever, the reason, the consequences can be severe and include stress, shame, depression, family breakdown, household eviction or even attempted self-harm.

CAP offers a unique debt counseling service, which includes budgeting and financial education. All of our clients who successfully follow the program become debt free. CAP aims to show compassion toward people in debt, fairness to creditors and integrity in all its dealings.

How will the funds be used?

Tax deductible donations to CAP will be used to deliver sustainable poverty relief to anyone in need. This will be done by establishing the nation's most effective network of church based debt counseling centres that offer friendship, acceptance, understanding, spiritual and practical help to the poor and needy. We do not give money to our clients, rather we help them to manage their own money and live meaningful lives, whilst repaying all of their debts at a rate they can afford.

Please Note:

You will receive a receipt from Christians Against Poverty at the end of the financial year. Should you require an interim receipt, please contact us using the provided details.

Key Areas of Expenditure

Establish and maintain local debt counseling centres located in Christian Churches. This is done in partnership with these local churches, who also make a substantial ongoing financial contribution to the work. These costs include training of staff, staff salaries and small office related expenses.
Provide central support services to the debt counseling centres, which allow them to be wholly client focused. These services include, provision of our unique client banking service (The Budget Account), negotiation with unsecured creditors, and administration.
Promote the needs of the poor and provide financial education. This is done via talks to a wide range of community groups, as well as working in partnership with other welfare agencies and government bodies, who are concerned to see lives changed.
