Diabetes Counselling Services Appeal

We are a national web based counselling service for people with diabetes and their families, addressing connections between diabetes, mental health and wellbeing. People with diabetes suffer twice the rates of depression and problems such as eating disorders. Addressing such issues in combination with diabetes management is critical to outcomes for people with diabetes.

We are unique and nobody else is providing a similar service. Our focus is on providing email based counselling services, with all of our counsellors having both personal experience of diabetes, as well as professional qualifications. We have had seed funding via the National Diabetes Services Scheme and Diabetes Australia which has now ended. As an established charity we are now looking to find funds to contribute to expanding our counselling services to meet increasing demand.

We currently have up to a 7 - 10 day wait for counselling responses due to an increasing number of requests - we receive over 11,000 hits per day and over 60 new requests for services each month. As such we need to contract 1 or 2 more part time counsellors to reduce waiting times and increase our reach.

How will the funds be used?

We will use the funds raised to contribute to contracting of at least 1 counsellor to provide part time email counselling directly to people with diabetes. We have 3 potential counsellors available to us at present. We will also utilise other fundraising and grants towards this salary. We will pool funds donated to enable budget development for contracting a counsellor.
