Ecotrust Australia is an enterprising non-profit organisation that seeks to make a breakthrough contribution in the areas of conservation, social finance and community development in Northern Australia. We have a specific focus in regional and remote areas, with a particular emphasis on working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Ecotrust Australia's purpose is to promote reliable prosperity. We offer tools and resources to Indigenous and other community-based organisations to facilitate positive change at the intersection of cultural resilience, ecosystem conservation, economic opportunity and community vitality.
How will the funds be used?
It is our belief that old thinking won't fix new problems. A tremendous opportunity is emerging to rethink how development gets done, in some cases whether development occurs at all, and in all cases how to ensure that positive benefits are long-lasting, and ideally permanent.
Ecotrust Australia will undertake cultural and landscape mapping projects as part of our commitment to information democracy. Indigenous people are demanding a greater say over conservation and development planning on country, and our aim is to assist them in producing foundational and visionary documents that chart a path towards reliable prosperity in the bioregions of Northern Australia.
We are also in the process of researching and designing, with partners, an Indigenous Impact Bond - a social finance tool that we believe holds great promise for helping Indigenous Australians find resources to stay connected to country and to lead healthy and productive lives.
