The Asylum Seekers Centre of NSW provides a welcoming environment and practical support for community based asylum seekers who have fled persecution or other dangers in their countries. It relies on grants, donations and public support to enable it to assist over 500 asylum seekers each year
There are many asylum seekers who travel to the Centre to access the social and development programs it runs. For those with limited English, the classes are an essential means of them learning to communicate, and can be the only social connection they have with other people. The daily lunches provided at the Centre are sometimes the only hot meal of the day they will receive.
