The Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) is the only national, independent organisation in Australia dedicated solely to young people. We believe that all young people have the courage, imagination and will to shape their education and create social change.
FYA's mission is to empower young Australians to be successful learners and creative, active and valued citizens. We do this through a unique combination of:
- Evidence based research
- Innovative program delivery
- Collaboration with partners across all sectors
- The ability to find and back inspiring and effective young change makers.
How will the funds be used?
$20: Will go towards our
Change It Up program where we work with young people in rural and regional communities to equip them with the skills to establish themselves as connected and contributing community citizens.
$50: Will enable a student from a socially and economically disadvantaged community to participate in our
Worlds of Work program where they will build their capacity to achieve success in life and work after school.
$100: Will go towards a scholarship for a disadvantaged young person to take part in our
Young People Without Borders program where they engage in a post-school 'Start Year' overseas or within Australia, where they will volunteer and experience life beyond their borders, develop different perspectives, learn new skills, grow in confidence and independence and build a strong belief in their ability and responsibility to be an agent for positive social change.
FYA's recent accomplishments:
At the initiative level FYA completes evaluations and impact assessments that take into account specific outcomes for that initiative. Our recent achievements include:
- Our partnership with NAB and ACER on the Schools First program where we had direct engagement with 320 winning schools, supporting their school/community partnerships. At its heart, NAB Schools First brings together students, teachers, parents and community members to improve the educational outcomes of students.
- FYA's Worlds of Work Program where we worked directly with 1,200 students, 89.6% of which agreed or strongly agreed that WOW increased their awareness of their work options. The purpose of WOW is to build the capacity of students from socially and economically disadvantaged communities to achieve success in life and work after school.
- Young Social Pioneers program where we have supported 14 young social pioneers and 28 Alumni whose projects have had an impact on over 50,000 people throughout Australia. It is the only leadership program of its kind dedicated to young social change makers in Australia.
