The Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) recognises great potential in all young people. We work relentlessly to improve the way young Australians learn, the way they lead and the way they live. We are particularly committed to equity and excellence in Australian school education.

How will the funds be used?

As a national, independent organisation, we work in four key areas:

  • We spark learning - Building on the long and successful history of our Education Foundation Division, FYA demonstrates and delivers innovative programs that inspire and improve educational outcomes. We offer students the chance to learn in new ways and take a leading role in their own education. We support schools to empower their students and connect with the wider community.
  • We create and share knowledge - FYA produces relevant and internationally recognised research on the issues that affect young people in Australia. We believe good research leads to good outcomes, so all of our work is underpinned by a strong evidence base. We aim to bring about systemic change through our research agenda and to share our knowledge as widely as possible.
  • We advocate for change - FYA works to amplify the voice of young people on the issues that matter to them. Our independence means that we are well positioned to openly and passionately support young people to have their views heard by decision-makers.
  • We invest in young people - FYA has leveraged the investment of more than $30 million into the youth and education sectors over the past twenty years. We partner with the private sector, government and not-for-profit organisations to empower all young Australians to be successful learners and confident, active and valued citizens.

In the past year FYA has:

  • Engaged and inspired more than 200,000 young Australians in over 2,000 schools and communities across Australia, through education initiatives, campaigns, scholarships, events and leadership programs;
  • Partnered with NAB and ACER in Schools First, awarding $5 million to 88 school community partnerships;
  • Trained and supported 14 Young Social Pioneers to further their extraordinary social projects, enterprises and initiatives, which have positively impacted the lives of nearly 20,000 people;
  • Invested $1.3 million into youth-led organisations and individuals; and Created new knowledge with real policy impact - through 6 major research reports, 16 journal articles, 26 conference presentations and 3 submissions to parliamentary enquiries.
