The Gay and Lesbian Foundation of Australia (galfa) was conceived in 2005 to address the need for a national charitable foundation whose purpose is to provide funds for charitable activities/organisations which have as their sole or chief purpose/outcome, the good and betterment of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex people and allied communities, in Australia.

How will the funds be used?

It is intended that galfa will exist in perpetuity and will seek donations and bequests, to maintain capital funds and to generate income from them. Grants will be made from the funds to achieve galfa's mission. While it is intended that grants will be broadly directed to the betterment of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex people and allied communities in Australia, it is not intended that funds will b e applied to direct clinical or medical care of individuals, and it is not intended that galfa will be directly involved in the service delivery, advocacy and other work that it funds.
