Galilee Foster Care places vulnerable children and young people with highly trained foster carers in the Canberra region.

Children and young people can come into care for a few days, a few months, or long term. Wherever possible, children are returned to the care of their birth families, however some children remain in foster care until they reach independence.

Why do we need your donation?

The number of children in Out of Home Care in Australia has risen by 44% in the past 4 years. Children in Foster Care are often behind in their social, emotional and educational milestones. Foster carers have a wealth of love to give but sometimes struggle financially to meet the needs of children in their care. Carers need their own equipment such as beds, linen, toys and books. They also need to make their home child safe with safety catches, safety gates, night lights, power outlet plugs etc.

We need your help to continue to provide this vital service. A little help from many people will go a long way!

Help us help the children and young people in our care, and the amazing Foster Carers that provide them a safe and loving home, by giving a one-off donation or making a regular contribution to this vital community support service.

How will the funds be used?

Your donation will be used to provide our Foster Carers, and the children and young people in their homes, with vital support, the cost of which would otherwise be prohibitive. For example, funds will be used to:
  • Supply crisis carers with toiletries, clothes, books, toys, teddy bears
  • Buy "starter packs" for new carers - prams, cots, high chairs and car seats
  • Register children in sporting teams and buy their sporting equipment
  • Provide additional training and support to carers, especially those with high needs children
  • Provide extra curricular activities for children in care
  • Train new carers at a cost of $2,000 per carer family.

Does Galilee need more Foster Carers?

Yes! Galilee Foster Care always needs more people in the Canberra region who can offer a home to a child or young person where they will feel loved, accepted and safe. Enquiries are very welcome. Phone: (02) 6290 2191 and speak to the Foster Care team.

Galilee Foster Care is managed by Communities@Work.
