Gold Coast Activity Drive

The Down Syndrome Association of Queensland (DSAQ) has a large community base on the Gold Coast. The Mission of DSAQ Inc is to build community awareness of Down syndrome and to support, advocate for and empower people with Down syndrome to take their rightful place within the local and global community. Having Down syndrome may present a series of developmental, learning and health challenges throughout a person's life. It does not determine who that person is, as he or she will have unique abilities, skills, interests and personality. These key qualities will influence how they live their lives, along with family and community attitudes and support. Funding is required to assist families achieve their personal goals and raise community awareness.

How will the funds be used

Funds raised will be used to promote community awareness through events held on the Gold Coast.

Funding will provide DSAQ Gold Coast members with opportunities to attend educational workshops to empower and extend their knowledge and skills.

Events and activities will be held to connect families, youth and adults with Down syndrome. There is a need to provide a safe haven for families and individuals on the Gold Coast, to share information, anxieties and achievements.

Funding is needed to support Gold Coast members to achieve sporting/fitness/lifestyle goals.

Key areas of expenditure

• Buddy Walk - An annual event to promote community awareness and a feeling of 'togetherness'.
• Speech Therapy - Regular workshops to aide parents of school age children with strategies that will see their children achieve their language/communication goals.
• Music Therapy - An innovative and proven method to promote learning and communication through music.
• Family Disco - A fun way to connect families and watch our children express themselves through dance.
• Gymnastic Program - Promotes gross motor and core muscle skills for all ages.
