The project aims to improve the quality of the lives of primary school students and (indirectly) their parents in the community of Sogeambele by constructing VIP latrines, improving water supply systems, promoting hygiene and providing health education, and building capacity to sustain the improvements. The primary school currently has no access to clean drinking water, no toilets, no hand washing facilities and students do not understand the importance of sanitation, and suffer ill health as a result. Health Australia & Tanzania (HAT) Inc. will contribute to the project by working in partnership with MAMADO to assist in the planning, management, funding and evaluation of this project. The funding provided by HAT is US$20,449 and the community is co-contributing. The project has commenced, and will be completed on 31st January 2012.
