Helping Hand Aged Care is fundraising towards research and development of new initiatives that support older South Australians, regardless of whether they choose to stay at home or enter into a residential care environment.
The challenge facing aged care providers is the perception that the industry is fully funded by Commonwealth Government. The reality is that Government funding is limited and only covers essential services in the provision of traditional care. We believe our clients and residents deserve and need more.
So we think outside the box, for programs and services that we believe will make a difference to the quality of life of our older South Australians.
How will the funds be used?
Your donations will be put towards key projects and initiatives, in 2011/12, such as:
- Telling My Story showcases a series of short digital films revealing the inspiring personal memories of our older population. Guided by a group of creative young filmmakers, the films are personally scripted by participants with short term memory loss and early stages of dementia.
- Our Digital and Technology projects focus on enriching social and leisure time by familiarizing the older generation with tools such as Skype, connecting them with family who may be interstate or overseas and equipping them with e-readers and ipods so that they can more easily pursue personal interests.
- Grandparents as Parents provides support for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. The program reduces isolation by connecting them with fellow grandparents and helps them with issues like childhood learning and behaviour management
- Community banners Art project - Visual arts connecting culture and community - an award winning project working across generations and increasing understanding of residential aged care. With representatives from the Philippines, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indigenous Australia and year 11 high school students, banners were created promoting harmony diversity and positive images to the wider community.
- The Student Placement program provides young people with invaluable, practical insight into aged care, at the same time attracting a wealth of talent to the sector and fostering links with the future workforce. The program is renowned for the quality of experience provided to students and in turn the high transition from placement to paid work.
- Research into Environmental issues - how we can become more conscious of energy usage, food wastage, water consumption so that we can become a greener organization and better serve our residents and the community
