Hiphopportunity for Youth Inc was founded and formed by experienced youth workers as a dynamic, energetic and alternative way of engaging young people in their communities through the 'elements' of hip-hop; emceeing, deejaying, beatboxing, break-dancing and street art.

Hip-hop is a diverse subculture that we live and respectfully harness to deliver a range of school and community based projects that immerse young people in art, design, music production, dance, poetry and literacy, event management and multimedia. The benefits that then flow from these experiences include increased self-esteem and self efficacy, positive self expression, re-engagement with education, peer mentoring and leadership, career exploration, skill development and social inclusion.

HFYi practice non-token youth participation, hence all workshops are delivered by youth for youth.

To support community programs aimed at young people.

  • recording emerging hip hop artists
  • running spray can artwork classes and workshops
  • festival performances, encouraging young people in their artistic endeavours

  • supplying transport (minibus, etc) so that disadvantaged young people can attend
