Whilst the famous week-long Melbourne Cup carnival is celebrated, Horse Rescue Australia invites you to contribute to a compassionate alternative to placing a bet.

Since 1986 we have helped rescue many former racehorses who, for a myriad of reasons, have faced an uncertain future.

April, pictured below, is just one of the many ex-racehorses we have successfully rehabilitated and rehomed to a loving forever home.

April was abandoned, along with several other thoroughbreds, on a property leased by a person identified on the Racing NSW Excluded List. All the horses were accepted into a rehabilitation initiative created by Racing NSW, which helps secure ex-racehorses a new life after racing.

We're not sure why April was rejected. Perhaps, at 15 years of age, she was considered too old for the program. It could have been because she was lame and had suffered an injury to one of her hooves. We will probably never know. 

We don't discriminate against age, lack of potential, injuries, behavioural issues or rehabilitation costs. We simply see a horse that needs our help.
