An urgent appeal to restore, refresh, and future-proof Sine Cera Rainforest Retreat - so it remains as a sanctuary for families, communities, and spiritual groups for decades to come.
Dharma Care is an Australian registered charity with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status, that includes a social enterprise Sine Cera Rainforest Retreat.
What is clear to us is that Dharma Care is of considerable importance in our own small way, to mankind and the community in general. It is also clear to us that our direction and purpose is changing somewhat.
Part of that is to become more Australian focussed, epitomised by our "Winter Warmer" project of the last three years where we have supported homelessness projects in the Queensland/ NSW border area.
The way we are structured is that the Sine Cera Rainforest Retreat generates profits that go a long way to supporting the other activities of Dharma Care.
However, we have run into a problem. The remote location of Sine Cera is part of the attraction for many of our retreat organisers, but over the last year or so it has become even more remote due to a road closure which has added an hour to an already long journey from Brisbane or the Gold Coast.
The road is currently scheduled to be reopened in 2026, and work has already been postponed several times. Our customers have become frustrated, and we have suffered several cancellations. The result is that we have found ourselves for the first time with a complete gap in bookings between now and early February.
This inevitably is going to lead to a cash flow crisis. It has also meant that essential maintenance has been delayed, which, in turn, also has an adverse effect on bookings. We have a very valuable asset in Sine Cera but very little in the way of cash reserves.
At the same time there is an opportunity: we need to use this gap in bookings to undertake considerable refurbishment of the buildings
By revitalising the retreat, the whole charity becomes stronger.
“Sine Cera has been a place of peace and renewal for thousands. Now it needs our care. Help us revitalise the retreat so it can continue its purpose for generations to come.” Davin Shellshear – Chair Dharma Care Board
How you can help us and double your donation impact
We have a generous donor offering to match up to $20,000 dollar for dollar, so $10 becomes $20, $100 becomes $200 and so on.
We don't need vast amounts, $20,000 until the bookings already in place from early February recommence. We also need a similar amount to future-proof the buildings.

Please feel free to call me on 0468 611 561 anytime if you can help or want to know more.
We would greatly appreciate any kind of support you can offer us as we work through this challenging period.
