IHOS Music Theatre & Opera is a Tasmanian performing arts company with an international reputation for original music theatre and opera. The IHOS Laboratory was founded in 2000 to provide training in musicianship and stagecraft and create a unique opportunity for young singers to work with professional musicians and theatre workers to develop specially composed works of contemporary music theatre which are then presented to the public as fully staged professional productions.
The IHOS Laboratory is also dedicated to providing a platform for young and emerging composers, directors and designers to see their works fully produced. At the end of 2007 the IHOS Laboratory had premiered 26 new Australian music theatre works since its foundation and provided opportunities for over 134 young performers. Students from the Laboratory have gone on to study at the Tasmanian and Sydney Conservatoria of Music, NIDA and the VCA.
