Donating to JOY 94.9 - background

JOY 94.9 is Australia's first and only full-time community radio station for the GLBTIQ community, run by over 200 volunteers and a handful of paid core staff. The station is a non-profit organisation and is self-funded by members and fundraising activities. This allows us to remain independent, and to broadcast the needs of our community on air locally and world-wide on the net at joy.org.au, and to provide podcasts to download.

We're passionate about the need for a gay & lesbian radio station, and we hope you are too. After more than 16 years of broadcasting, it is hard to imagine there not being a GLBTIQ radio station in Melbourne.

The station only has access to limited funds and depends on the generosity of its members and friends to fund some of the more costly items of expenditure. Some donate cash; others donate services, labour and professional services eg pro-bono legal services, working but superceded compatible IT or broadcasting components, subsidies of fees, fares and accommodation for attending training or business courses, etc.

We rely on your support to survive. By your DONATION, you can help us to ensure that JOY continues to provide a diverse range of relevant programs, arts & culture, music and news that connects, informs and entertains our community.

JOY 94.9 must continually invest in staff training and new and upgraded studio, IT and broadcast transmission equipment.
