Link Family Scheme are located 100 kilometres north of Brisbane on Queensland's Sunshine Coast and we provide a range of recreation and support services to people who have a disability and their families. We are a non-profit organisation and we receive funding from a number of government agencies.
Several of our programs offer respite to families provided through recreation activities as the ideal way to engage young people in interesting, challenging and fun-filled activities. We believe that recreation provides a range of important benefits for the young person. They are fun, they provide exercise and, if well designed, they can be challenging and educational. They also provide an assurance to families that their son or daughter is participating in meaningful activities.
Our programs receive funding from the government but only covers the wages of our staff to fulfil the programs.
Our programs that would benefit from donations to this appeal are:
Teen Holiday and ASC
This program for teenagers operates during the school holidays at various community venues throughout the Sunshine Coast. Small groups of teenagers are supported by experienced workers to access community leisure and recreation options.
Therapeutic ASC
This program offers a dual service to families by providing both after school care and therapeutic services such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy, physical therapy and swimming therapy in a specialised setting.
Social Klub
Link Family runs activities for several groups during the school term that are active on the Coast. Groups are comprised of young people aged 6 to 21 years.
These Klubs have been developed to help establish positive social networks between children/young people with a disability and their local communities, as well as giving families a break. The Klubs participate in community based activities such as the movies, Ten Pin Bowling, Arts, Drama, Dancing, Movies, Fishing, Canoeing, Bush Walking & other outdoor activities.
The funds will be utilised for our recreation programs to create fun and energetic activities for young people with a disability.
Your assistance will improve their health and wellbeing and to allow them to participate in events within the community
