Dementia is now the leading cause of death for men and women in Australia, with an estimated 433,000+ individuals living with a diagnosis. Of the estimated 230 types of dementia, Alzheimer’s is the most common, contributing up to 70%.
Auspiced by Support Groups Queensland, the Logan Dementia Alliance are creating a dementia-friendly City of Logan through the delivery of the Dementia-Friends program and creating social projects and workshops. They encourage, enable and empower individuals living independently in the community to lead active and fulfilling lives following a dementia diagnosis; and provide information and referrals to support services for their key people by caring for the carer.
The Logan Dementia Choir combines singing, music, movement and social connection for those sharing the dementia journey. Research demonstrates music strengthens neural connections, and enhances emotional well-being, improves mood, memory recall and communication. The Choir meets weekly, excluding school holidays. There are no auditions - all voices are valued.
We need donations to support our volunteers, and pay for musicians, music therapy, musical equipment, morning tea, room hire, administration and other ongoing costs.
Your donation will enrich the lives of people living with a dementia diagnosis, ensuring they and their key people feel safe, respected and valued.
