Toowoomba councillor and Executive Chairman of FKG Group, Gary Gardner, has thrown down a challenge to the Toowoomba community, pledging to personally match every dollar donated to Momentum Mental Health, up to the value of one year of his Councillor salary, in a new initiative aimed at encouraging the Toowoomba community to support the vital organisation.

Match It for Momentum, was inspired by a recent visit to Momentum Mental Health, where Mr Gardner met with staff, volunteers and participants and gained a greater understanding of the organisation's work and the growing demand for its services.

Mr Gardner said what stood out most was the dedication of Momentum's people and the impact they have on the community every day.

"I've always believed that when you see good people doing important work, you should back them," Mr Gardner said.

"My visit to Momentum left a lasting impression. I met people who aren't doing this work for recognition - they're doing it because they genuinely care about improving the lives of others. The more I learned about Momentum, the more I realised just how many people rely on its services, and just how great the need has become. When you see that level of commitment, and that level of community need, you want to do something to help".

"That's why I'm committing to personally match every dollar donated to Momentum Mental Health, up to the value of one year's Councillor salary and I'm challenging our whole community to Match It for Momentum. Whether you're an individual, a family, a sporting club or a local business, every donation will be doubled and every contribution will help Momentum continue changing lives across our community."

In 2025–26, Momentum Mental Health supported 736 individuals through 6,566 attendances across the Toowoomba region, delivering recovery-focused programs that improve wellbeing, reduce social isolation, and build confidence through connection, education and practical support.
