TEAM MDDA CHALLENGE

Metabolic Dietary Disorders Association MDDA Other Causes...

Metabolic Dietary Disorders Association MDDA has listed 1 other cause:
Give a One Off Donation Give a Regular Donation
Team MDDA provides the opportunity for all MDDA members, families, colleagues and friends … and anyone else … to get behind supporting Australians living with an Inborn Error of Metabolism.

Why Support Team MDDA?

By donating to Team MDDA you are not only supporting a group of remarkable individuals who are prepared to go above and beyond to achieve something for their cause, but you are providing vital funds to an organisation in desperate need of providing continued services to a growing population of sufferers of these metabolic disorders.

How was Team MDDA Started?

Team MDDA is a fantastic initiative started by the local MDDA member community and MDDA is very grateful to everyone that is contributing - either by donating on this site now - or joining up to Team MDDA and taking on a challenge of their own!

This initiative has been inspired by our Team MDDA ambassador Dean Tulloch who in June 2011 ran a gruelling 250km through the Gobi Desert in China to raise awareness for MDDA and the many rare diseases it supports. Dean is about to embark on his second big Team MDDA RunDeanoRun challenge when on May 19, 2012, he runs the North Face 100 in the magnificent Blue Mountains of New South Wales. TNF100 is a 100km race - non-stop - through some of the most spectacular scenery in Australia.

Dean works full time, has a wife and three young children of his own ,and yet does this all in the name of his little mate Charlie who was born in Melbourne on 11th February 2010 with PKU to his best mates Dean and Monique! Charlie is one of just 883 currently known individuals in Australia diagnosed with an Inborn Error of Metabolism, and it is this rare group on individuals and their families that MDDA (and your contribution to Team MDDA) help to provide vital support to.

MDDA thanks you for your donation to this cause, and encourages you to consider taking on a Team MDDA challenge of your own. If you want more information on Team MDDA or are interested in signing up for your own challenge, please contact team.mdda@mdda.org.au or visit www.mdda.org.au and we can get you on board straight away with your very own Team MDDA Welcome Kit to get you started. No challenge is considered too small for this wonderful cause that promotes community spirit, teamwork, personal dedication and support in a true Aussie spirited way.

So Who is MDDA?

The MDDA (Metabolic Dietary Disorders Association) is an underfunded not for profit which supports families with the complex issues in dealing with metabolic dietary disorders, such as PKU, MSUD and Galactosaemia to name just a few. Without this support, families are left with very little information and help which may have dire consequences for babies, infants and children with such disorders.

How will funds donated be used?

Families who are affected by rare Metabolic Disorders rely on the MDDA for information, conferences, books, recipes, much needed emotional support etc. There is presently not enough money to offer the level of support required by Australians with metabolic dietary disorders. Money raised through the Bazaar Christmas in July Fundraiser will dramatically make a difference for families facing the life changing challenge associated with diseases like PKU.

Key areas of expenditure:

  • Provides vital services such as the 1800 number, consultation and links to dietary, medical, clinic and counselling services.
  • Provides much needed newsletters, online services and resources to keep members connected so that experiences and knowledge can be shared.
  • Subsidises financially struggling members to attend the national conference, cooking workshops and other key events around the country.
  • Funds local and international presenters/researcher to present at conferences and events.
  • Provides recipe books and product factsheets to all members to assist in meal preparation for this extremely limited low protein diet required by most IEM sufferers.
For anyone wishing to donate to this important cause, please note every little bit helps.
