The Nature Conservation Trust of NSW is a not for profit organisation that buys private land with high conservation values and protects it with perpetual covenants. We then on-sell the protected properties to new private landholders and use the sale proceeds to buy more special places. This means your donation will be used over and over again to protect many properties.
New South Wales is home to over 1,000 animals and plants that are threatened with extinction. With the vast majority of land under private ownership, many of our threatened species cling to life on unprotected private land, their survival challenged by threats such as land clearing and degradation, climate change, weeds and feral animals.
By creating a network of private nature reserves across NSW, the Nature Conservation Trust is playing a vital role in ensuring our precious native animals and plants have a future. Since 2003, we have protected over 21,000 hectares of land across 60 properties, including life-supporting habitat for over 100 threatened animals and plants.
Our aim is protect at least 50,000 hectares of wildlife habitat on private land by 2015, and much more in the following years. Your donation will help us achieve this goal and ensure the survival of our unique animals and plants for generations to come.
While all donations are greatly appreciated, your regular monthly contribution will help us to confidently plan for the future and work towards our long term conservation goals. It will also allow us to act quickly when we identify a high conservation value property that needs protecting, such as our most recent purchase, 'Shark Creek'. This very special wetland property in northern NSW is a haven for threatened waterbirds and other wildlife.
