What's Hot/What's Not

What’s Hot – The Million Dollar Egg

Inspired by the Canadian man who traded h is way to a house from one red paperclip, Australian architecture students Christopher Wright, Josh O’Meara and Andrew Fincher have founded the “ 1egg1world ” project. Through their chicken’s Facebook page they traded one egg for a movie soundtrack. Five trades later, they had a cricket bat signed by Don Bradman. With further support by community project site PlanBig, they continued to trade up until they raised an incredible $1 million. They will split the money between Cool Australia, EarInfoNet and OrphFund.

What’s Not – Tinned Fruit

Nearly a million cans of tinned fruit, worth about $1.8 million, will be sent to welfare agencies because the labels wrongly state they are “Proudly Australian Owned”. US company HJ Heinz Australia, which acquired Golden Circle in 2008, has admitted to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission that it misled customers into thinking its products were locally owned through its packaging and website. The company has also been told to dump the misleading labels and publish apologies in major newspapers.
