"Support for NIDA is support for the arts, youth, education and creative excellence" - Greg Coote Producer- Los Angeles
The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) is one of the world's greatest performing arts schools and a renowned Australian icon.
NIDA's graduates are the leaders, innovators and agents of change for the global arts and entertainment industry.
They have been an inextricable part of making NIDA one of the best dramatic arts institutions anywhere in the world. A share of their acclaim is attributable to the elite training NIDA has been able to provide for them.
Maintaining the elite standards of learning for which NIDA is renowned requires funding over and above that provided by government or covered by operational income.
For more than 25 years, money raised through the NIDA Foundation Trust has been critical to NIDA's capacity to grow, respond to change and provide the highest levels of educational excellence.
In the wake of a global economic downturn and amidst the most competitive philanthropic environment yet seen in Australia, planning for the future of NIDA and its students is now more vital than ever.
The NIDA Foundation Trust has identified its immediate funding priorities for 2010 and is seeking support for the following programs and projects:
Scholarship Funding
NIDA is a school deeply committed to providing world-class dramatic and artistic training to all Australians, whether privileged or poor, from Adelaide or the Alice.
Many of NIDA's students have no family support and/or are ineligible for government financial assistance. Daily class work, evening and weekend rehearsals, performances and secondments make it impossible for students to hold regular jobs in order to finance themselves.
The NIDA Foundation Bursaries ensure the most gifted artists are given the opportunity to study at NIDA, where their personal circumstances would usually preclude them from doing so.
Upgrades to Learning Technologies
Today, the rapid pace of technological change is a major hurdle facing educators, including NIDA, yet is a critical driver of modern and productive learning.
Without the NIDA Foundation Trust's annual $100,000 grant for technology and equipment it would be simply impossible for NIDA to continue meeting the needs of its students and keep pace with technological change.
Musical Equipment
Musical training and performances are a fundamental part of all actor - training at NIDA. In fact NIDA is introducing a specialised musical theatre stream within the Acting degree program in 2011.
NIDA's concert grand piano used for rehearsals, productions and teaching is in serious disrepair. The NIDA Foundation Trust must raise the $70,000 required to purchase a new concert grand piano and two new upright pianos, all which are desperately needed to support the musical training needs of NIDA students.
