Margaret River is Western Australia's favourite tourist destination, renowned for its wines, surf, forests and natural beauty. It is difficult to imagine a worse place for a dirty industrial coal mine.
A coal mine in Margaret River would not only mean more carbon pollution but would have a devastating impact on the groundwater that Margaret River vineyards, forests and the town itself relies upon.
If this mine is allowed to proceed then there will be nothing to stop further mining development and the Margaret River that we know and love could cease to exist.
Also, coal from this mine will be destined for export to be burned in polluting coal fired power stations overseas. The world's most respected climate scientist, James Hansen (NASAA) recently said 'coal power stations are death factories - close them'.
The Margaret River Community is strongly opposed to this coal mine proposal, including the Margaret River Shire, farmers, winemakers, tourist operators and residents and we're working closely with this community to stop the coal mine and keep the coal in the ground where it belongs.
We need your help to fight this proposal and to keep Margaret River as we know and love it, rather than turning it into an industrial coal pit, so please donate generously to this important cause.
