NSW Association for Gifted and Talented Children

The NSWAGTC is an open association (incorporated in the state of New South Wales, Australia) for people who share a common interest in gifted and talented children, with a particular focus on NSW and the ACT. It is a non for profit charity organisation run by volunteers.

This vision of the Association is to provide relief for the disadvantage, distress, suffering and misfortune experienced by gifted and talented children and their families, irrespective of family, financial, class, race, sex, nationality or religious background.

How will the funds be used?

To support the principal and ancillary goals of the Association

Key areas of expenditure

To provide assistance and counselling for gifted and talented children, their parents and their teachers, irrespective of family, financial, class, race, sex, nationality or religious background.

To ensure through publications and other means the full awareness of parents, teachers and the general community of the special needs of gifted and talented children;

To ensure through publications and other means the full awareness of parents, teachers and the general community of the available facilities and programs to meet these needs and to highlight and seek to rectify any shortfalls in these facilities and programs;

To promote strategies for parents, teachers and others to identify gifted and talented children, with particular emphasis on those who may be underachieving, and including the female, aboriginal, multicultural, physically-handicapped and learning- disabled groups;

To provide opportunities for gifted and talented children, their parents and their teachers to meet and discuss their mutual problems in a supportive atmosphere;

To ensure the appropriate training of all teachers (both pre-service and ongoing) in the education of gifted and talented children;

To ensure flexibility in school programs at all levels to ensure gifted and talented children are provided with schooling opportunities at the pace and level appropriate to their abilities and stages of development;

To provide supplementary educational and social experiences for gifted and talented children as appropriate; and

To promote the establishment of local and regional groups throughout NSW so that the immediate needs of their local communities can be met.
