Whether it is your personal computer or from your workplace, or an unused television, your donation can assist an individual or community organisation get ac cess to a key tool for learning and communication while also helping to reduce waste.

The following organisations accept donations of computers and other electricals either for recycling or refurbishing and distribution.

Please note that many electrical goods are just too old to be useful and different recycling organisations have different rules about what they can and can't accept. It's important to get in touch with each organisation to check their requirements before you make your donation - otherwise they may end up having to dispose of the goods at considerable expense .

Computers for Kids

Description: Rotary Club of Nundah Computers 4 Kids Inc. is a non profit organisation. The project refurbishes ex Government, Corporate and private PCs for distribution to disadvantaged students of any age. C4K has been a Microsoft Approved Refurbisher since 2004.

Corporate donations – If you are working for or know of a business that is about to upgrade their computer systems, we are only too happy to accept superseded equipment, providing it meets our minimum specification (Pentium 3 or better).

Private donations - If you have a personal computer (Pentium 3 or better), IN GOOD WORKING ORDER AND YOU HAVE THE ORIGINAL DRIVER DISK( S) we can accept it for refurbishment. We are unable to accept Pentium 1 and 2 computers unless they are part of a shipment of Pentium 3 or better. This is due to a lack of orders from the Third World for the lower specification machines. It is a sad fact of life that older equipment often cannot be refurbished to meet our quality control standards so would be better off with a recycler. As we incur recycling charges for equipment which can't be turned into a reliable homework computer system, C4K reserves the right to decline acceptance of equipment unsuitable for refurbishment. We also do not refurbish Apple Macs or dot matrix printers.

Green Collect

Project Description : E-waste is the fastest growing source of waste, growing three times faster than regular waste. There are an estimated 9.2 million computers in use around Australia. It is expected that over this year a further 2.1 million computers will enter the market, while 3 million which reach the end of their life. Presently only 3% of e-waste is recycled.

Landfilling e-waste is hazardous to the environment and human health because substances such as arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury and nickel can leach out into the ground and water. These substances have been associated with diseases such as cancer and neurological disorders.

Our local e-waste isn't just accumulating in our landfills, but is often shipped overseas to countries such as China, Nigeria and Indonesia, where it threatens the health of these communities. See more at
http://www.ban.org

We collect anything and everything electronic for recycling or reusing!
