Real Choices General Appeal

Our Objectives

To provide a national framework for the delivery of pregnancy support services and post abortion support services around Australia, through the development of professional standards, education and resources.

To develop and deliver education programs to school and communities on relationships, sexuality and reproduction that encourages and supports healthy life choices.

To monitor, develop, establish and improve professional services in each of these areas.

Governance

Real Choices Australia is governed by a Board of Directors, each of whom have extensive experience and are highly qualified in fields related to health, education, economics, research, and all of whom have worked in a variety of capacities with women and families experiencing unintended pregnancy.

Current Projects (2010-212)

Establishment as a Registered Training Organisation

Purpose: To offer professional, accredited training with an emphasis on the knowledge and skills required to meet the needs of women and families throught the perinatal period.

Scholarships for training of volunteer pregnancy support workers

Purpose: The majority of workers in this field are volunteers. Scholarships are offered to offset the cost of training. This will also ensure a commitment of workers in the field who will be required to undertake minimum hours 'on the job'.

Establishment of pilot Pregnancy and Family Support Centre - to provide education and support to women and families during perinatal period (conception to 12mths following birth)

Purpose: Undertake research on the needs of women and men facing unintended or unsupported pregnancy, and develop and deliver programs and services to meet those needs.

To develop an evidence based model for service delivery which will be transferable to other regional and metropolitan areas around Australia .

National Database of services to support pregnant women during the perinatal period (from conception to 12mths after birth)

Purpose: To provide a user friendly (search by postcode, online resource for women and families and to locate supportive services.

Establishment of an emergency relief fund for women seeking support to continue a pregnancy

Purpose: The majority of women seeking abortion do so for economic and psychosocial reasons. We know that many women feel a lack of support during this important decision making time, and many post abortive women express that if they had received offers of tangible support, they would have felt they had a choice. This fund will exist to meet a variety of immediate and ongoing needs of women who would otherwise see abortion as their only option.

Relationship Education

Real Choices Australia delivers the secondary school's relationship program, Choices Decisions Outcomes throughout Australia. We will continue to expand this program and offer new programs to inform and encourage young people to make healthy lifestyle choices.
