Sometimes it can be life threatening, and has even been associated with Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Support is often very difficult for these families to find, because community perceptions of reflux are very different to the reality of caring for a reflux child. Unfortunately, 'reflux' has also been associated with child abuse and shaken baby syndrome. We have very limited stocks of the brochures and newsletters, and have no posters in stock at all. We urgently need funds so we can rectify this situation.
All donations are directed back into the organisation so that RISA Inc is able to help these families. Everyone who works for RISA Inc is an unpaid volunteer and do so because they have been through the difficult experiences of day-to-day life with a child who has gastro-oesophageal reflux.
Donations provided through this project with Our Community will fund our Special Edition Newsletter, the Information Brochure and A4 Poster. The newsletters are sent to everyone who contacts us requesting information (if their child has been diagnosed with gastro-oesophageal reflux by their health professional).
This newsletter consists of six A4 sheets, printed on both sides. It contains some information about reflux, support ideas, practical management suggestions, as well as some information about what RISA Inc services are available. It also helps address the issue of community education. The Information Brochure is distributed to Community Child Health Centres throughout Queensland, and is given to any interested parent. Our posters are a display to aid community awareness of our association. All funds donated will go to supporting families in need.
