Richmond Toy Library

Keeping Kids Active

The Richmond Toy Library (RTL) is a not-for-profit organization run entirely by volunteers who are also busy parents. Membership is for families with pre-school children. We currently have 115 members and over 600 toys available for loan, approximately 40 of which are large-scale activity toys. Our main source of income is a council grant and membership fees which are used to run the library and purchase new toys. Because these funds are limited we are unable to purchase more than one or two large-scale toys a year.

How will the funds be used?

To buy large-scale outdoor toys for the RTL. Young children in Richmond typically live in small houses with even smaller courtyard-sized outdoor play areas. As a result they are restricted in the type of outdoor play they can experience at home. In addition there is limited storage in the house for large toys. So the toy library is a valuable resource for appropriate large-scale indoor and outdoor toys that encourage gross motor skill play. Typically these toys cost between $300 to $900 each.

Key Areas of Expenditure

An assortment of toys including a cubby house, activity gym, ride-ons, ball-sport goals, play kitchen, play shop, play post office, climbing frames
