About this cause

The Year 9 and 10 girls attend a unique cultural and educational camp held in Shark Bay provided by local Indigenous man Darren Capewell from Wula Gura Nyinda. It is a four-day program focusing on leadership, team building, communication, cultural awareness, the environment, safety, active participation, and respect.

Expected outcomes for the girls attending this camp include:

• an increased connection to culture and the environment

• building healthy and active young women; and

• creating inclusive communities

We believe it is important that the SHINE girls gain broader experiences and educational learning in different environments other than school. The Eco-Leadership camp is an important extra curricula event that provides female students with a range of new experiences and learnings connected to culture and the environment. Additionally, it assists to build healthy and active young women and connect them with others, collaborate with peers and work together, all of which is key to developing inclusive communities.

The Eco-Leadership camp will benefit the girls' personal growth and provide a foundation of independence and leadership that can extend well into later life to further study and work.
