The St Therese's Asylum Seekers and Refugee Support Group is a small group that is dedicated and committed to assisting asylum seekers & refugees.

The Group meets on a regular basis and the members are active in:

  • advocacy & awareness raising for promoting the adoption of humane and practical policy towards refugees and asylum seekers.
  • volunteering in the community and at detention centers; the group also has a volunteer bank allowing other organizations access to the skills of people within the group
  • supporting refugee families in the community with clothing, housing and other items
  • Strong focus on assisting children asylum seekers and refugees.
  • Support is offered for those families who are in housing as they exit the Detention Centre with little material possessions.
  • Families who are living in the community and have a bridging visa and permission to work often require assistance in finding suitable and affordable housing;
  • Housing needs for low income refugee and asylum seeker families is an urgent need
  • Support and financial guidance is being given to assist those families experiencing difficulty with electricity, gas and water bills. From time to time some financial support is needed so that basic services and maintained.

How the funds will be used?

Absolutely ALL funds raised will go directly to helping Asylum seekers and Refugees in the community through goods, food, accommodation, travel, education, advocacy and legal advice.
