The demand for our services continues to escalate whilst the issues we deal with are becoming more complex and challenging. We are now struggling to maintain existing services and cannot provide additional support so urgently needed by young people in crisis. Early intervention is one of the most critical services we need to provide - it can prevent family breakdown. It can also minimise the cost to the community resulting from crime and incarceration and it can save young people from a lifetime of welfare dependency.

Unfortunately due to the lack of funding we are in serious danger of having to abandon the Youth and Family Program. Early intervention via our Youth & Family Program previously had two full time staff and the capacity to work with 15-20 families at a time. We currently only have a family support worker three days a week to provide early intervention services to parents and families of clients already accommodated with Taldumande. We are looking to the community to help us continue this essential work.

How will the funds be used?

Funds will be used to help restore the capacity of our Youth & Family Program to provide direct youth early intervention support to 15-20 families per month. Within this Program, funds will provide services and tools that assist in working towards keeping families together in a safe environment. These will include therapeutic and practical responses for complex family situations as well as financial support linking families to specialised psychological services, drug and alcohol support etc.
