Animal Aid prides itself on the lengths that our staff and volunteers go to ensure that each individual in our care has the best chance of finding a suitable home, for life. Significant time and resources are required to assess each one for their health, temperament and personality, putting us in the best position to suitably match them with an adoptive home that can meet their needs. As a result the cost of preparing an animal for adoption can far outweigh the money we recoup through our sheltering fee, leaving us with a considerable deficit.
Last year, Animal Aid assisted in finding forever homes for 532 pooches, 921 felines and 46 pocket pets. Significant resources, around $490 for cats and $548 for dogs, are required to prepare each individual for adoption; additional veterinary treatments, therapies and rehabilitation come at a further cost. In order for us to continue to assist these deserving cases we need your help to cover the deficit we incur. The more generous you can be, the more we will be able to do.
Very few cases are simple or straight forward, each one has its' own unique set of circumstances which require individual attention or treatment. We have many programs in place that can cater for almost every possibility or need, from rehabilitation training to corrective surgeries.
Some individuals need longer than the restrictive 28 day time limit allows and benefit from time in a foster home. Where, away from the hectic shelter environment, they can begin to come out of their shell. There are many congenital defects that can be rectified with simple corrective surgery, while injuries sustained through trauma can eventually be repaired.
Very few animals in shelters are there because they deserve to be, they are all entitled to a second chance at happiness and at Animal Aid we are committed to seeing that they get that chance.
As an open door shelter no animal in need is ever turned away, once in our care, every effort is made to provide them a positive outcome.
