The Victorian AIDS Council/Gay Men's Health Centre (VAC/GMHC) is leading our community in the fight against HIV and STIs. The charity works to confront the continuing challenges of the HIV epidemic and, increasingly, the overall health and wellbeing of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) community.
VAC/GMHC works to: Strengthen the independence, dignity, health and wellbeing of HIV positive people and the GLBT community; Reduce the transmission of HIV and STIs; Enhance health outcomes for people living with HIV. In particular VAC/GMHC is invested in bringing the AIDS epidemic to an end.
There are over 5,000 Victorians known to be living with HIV, and two new cases diagnosed every three days, so there is an ever growing demand for VAC/GMHC's services. Victorians affected by HIV need our help, and we need your support.
VAC/GMHC provides a range of programs and services, to prevent the transmission of HIV in our community and to improve the lives of people living with HIV. Projects we undertake include: HIV risk reduction education campaigns; Counselling services; A safe and comfortable space to access essential practical and emotional support services; Credible and up to date information on HIV; Specialist medical practitioners, who provide bulk bill testing and treatment; Emergency financial relief including food, clothing and furniture; In home care and support; and Therapeutic treatments and groups. VAC/GMHC relies on the generosity of its supporters to continue a number of vital projects and activities, so every cent you donate helps make a difference.
