Affordable Housing for Disadvantaged Women

About this cause

Women's Property Initiatives (WPI) is a community housing developer with houses and apartments across Melbourne's inner and outer suburbs but with an ever-expanding waiting list of, at risk women and children (many escaping domestic violence), demand for our housing, far outweighs supply.

WPI (trading name of Victorian Women's Housing Association ABN 64077478696) was created in 1996 in response to the dire shortage of appropriate, affordable rental housing for women and their children. Our integrated properties are good quality, long term homes that enable our tenants' anonymity and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

Staff and voluntary board members are comprised of a committed and diverse group, drawing on expertise in the areas of government, community organisations, the law, education, consultancy, architecture, housing development, finance, marketing and engineering.

WPI is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and is a public benevolent institution.

Our objectives include: the provision and management of affordable rental housing for low-income women; referral of low-income women facing homelessness to housing services and connecting WPI tenants to counselling and support services, where appropriate.
