WIRES (NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue & Education Service Inc) is the largest wildlife rescue charity in Australia. We have an established network of volunteers who rescue, rehabilitate and release sick, injured or orphaned native wildlife.
WIRES rescues over 50,000 native animals every year and the past five months have been extremely busy. More and more often we are seeing wildlife come into conflict with people, cars and domestic animals because of increasing urban development.
What remains of their habitat is fragmented, meaning it is harder for animals to move away from threats. So every day WIRES' rescuers are called to snakes in cupboards and bathrooms or ponds and swimming pools.
Every day our wildlife ambulance is called to road accidents or dog attacks involving kangaroos or possums and every day the victims of land clearing come into our care, orphaned, injured or traumatised.
Every day WIRES sees the consequences for animals like flying foxes, hounded from place to place, displaced and disorientated, caught in netting or on barbed wire. Increasingly our city vets have become wildlife specialists and every day the daily work goes on for WIRES - taking animals to and from vets, into care and back out into the wild.
We couldn't do it without the ongoing support of people who understand the hardships faced by our unique wildlife every day and whose generosity helps us keep our rescue centre open, our wildlife ambulances on the road and our carers supplied with food and vital equipment.
Please give today to help us help animals injured and orphaned by urban life.
