12 Days of Sydney Fringe Fundraiser

We couldn't present our festival this year due to the impacts of the Covid crisis, but we still supported our community!

We delivered paid artist residencies, broke ground creating new digital platforms, advocating for our sector, had some big wins, presented work in real life in a covid safe way, helped independent venues reopen and so much more.

It's the time of the year when we run our annual fundraiser and ask you to donate to help us support more artists, more often. Next year our sector heads into recovery and more than ever the support Sydney Fringe provides will be vital. If like us you believe that our independent artists and venues are our cities greatest asset, then throw us a dollar or two so we can invest in the sector and ensure that we thrive well into the future.

We have created our own very special 12 days of Christmas song to celebrate 12 awesome things we did during 2020.

1) On the 1st day of Christmas Sydney Fringe gave to me: 1 ENORMOUS program of music and cabaret to look forward to in January 21!
This year we partnered with Sydney Festival and curated Allowed and Local. Featuring 46 local live music acts including: Ngaiire, Jaguar Jones, Christine Anu, William Barton, Urth Boy, Alicy Ivy, Bise and more

2) On the 2nd Day of Christmas Sydney Fringe gave to me: 2 TRAILBLAZING Video Artists in Residence
As part of our Art in Isolation project, we supported two video artists Laura Turner and Jaqui North to present two new works at 5 Eliza.

3) On the 3rd Day of Christmas Sydney Fringe gave to me: 3 INVOLVED phases of advocacy, pivoting, and programming
We have pivoted and advocated like there was no tomorrow this year. We worked with our international festival partners to present Global Fringe, we developed a new digital touring network, we opened up space for artists to make work, we supported venues to develop best practice reopening strategies, we broke ground in working through online music licensing for theatre performances, and we contributed to the sweeping reforms for NSW that happened in the 24 Hour Liquor Bill, a once in a lifetime set of regulatory reforms that will support the cultural and creative sectors.

Read all about it here:

4) On the 4th Day of Christmas Sydney Fringe gave to me: 4 ENTERTAINING Global Fringe gala events

We live-streamed 12 incredible works across the Globe as part of our triple bill live streams and had over 35 countries tuned in and we had a write up in the New York Times! Read it here:

5) On the 5th Day of Christmas Sydney Fringe gave to me: 5 BRILLIANT Made in Sydney Performances

We supported five local Sydney companies to reimagine their works in a Covid safe way and invested in the production of high-quality film versions or broadcast-quality live streams so that our Sydney artists could digitally tour their work during Covid.

6) On the 6th Day of Christmas, Sydney Fringe gave to me: 6 INFORMATIVE Masterclasses

We took our Producer Masterclasses online, expanding to six sessions and making them more accessible than ever before. Connecting artists from across the Globe with industry leaders, even while we were all in lockdown.

7) On the 7th Day of Christmas Sydney Fringe gave to me: 7  Fringe Team LEGENDS

Our team kept calm and carried on. We took a deep dive into what was important, undertook major strategy work, advocated for our sector, and rolled out programs that supported our community including:
On The Fringe Podcast
Producer Masterclasses
Art in Isolation residency program
Global Fringe
Made in Sydney
Allowed and Local
Small Venues Working Group

8) On the 8th Day of Christmas Sydney Fringe gave to me: 8 zoom meetings bombed by our FURRY FRIENDS

Our furry friends joined in the fun and kept our Fringe Family company while we were in lockdown.
It's been a tough year, and these crazy critters helped us all get through.

9) On the 9th Day of Christmas Sydney Fringe gave to me: 9 INNOVATIVE performance ensembles In Residence
As part of our Art in Isolation project we supported 9 performance ensembles with cash and in-kind venue space to create new work for our 2021 festival. Ensuring that our independent artists were able to continue to make work during Covid, and access financial support.

10) On the 10th Day of Christmas The Sydney Fringe gave to me 10 Industry LEADING Covid safe plans

We wrote, and rewrote and wrote Covid safe plans. We convened a working group of small to medium-sized theatres including Old 505 Theatre, Griffin Theatre, Darlinghurst Theatre, Brand X and worked through best practice reopening strategies to ensure that our independent venues could open as soon as possible.

11) On the 11th Day of Christmas Sydney Fringe gave to me: 11 SUPPORTIVE Partners
We are so grateful to our Government and corporate partners who stuck by us as we regrouped, pivoted and created new programs to support our community.

12) On the 12th Day of Christmas Sydney Fringe gave to me:12 INSIGHTFUL podcasts

We launched our very own podcast! As a way to stay connected with our community, have big conversations while we were all in lockdown and support artists by commissioning new audio works, the result: On The Fringe.
