Nepal Earthquake Appeal

NAFA aims

  • To improve the physical, social, emotional and economic well being of people in Nepal through small development projects, with an emphasis on women and children.
  • To promote friendships between the people of Australia and Nepal.

About NAFA

  • NAFA is a Brisbane based non-political, not-for-profit, non-government organisation without religious affiliation and run entirely by volunteers in Australia and Nepal. NAFA members visit Nepal each year at their own expense to monitor projects.
  • NAFA has been operating for over 25 years and has a proven track record in supporting successful sustainable, grass roots community development projects in Nepal in both rural and urban areas.
  • NAFA works in close collaboration with the growing Nepali community in Brisbane, the Nepal Association Queensland (NAQ). NAQ provides social support and activities to the local Nepalese community (including Nepali students studying in Queensland) and assists NAFA with its fundraising activities.
  • NAFA holds two major fundraising events each year in Brisbane - Nepali New Year Dinner (May) and Nepal in the Park (August).
  • NAFA is a vibrant organisation whose members share a love of Nepal and a desire to make a worthwhile contribution to Nepal's development.

How will your donation be used?

The earthquake in Nepal has caused a terrible loss of life and devastated much of the country. As well as the capital, many rural and remote villages have been hit badly.

NAFA's focus on community development has meant we have concentrated on education, health and other rural infrastructure development in the areas of the lower Solu Khumbu, Okhaldunga, Tawal area in the Dhading district and villages that can be accessed within a bus ride's trip from Kathmandu. These villages are all off the usual tourist trails and don't attract any tourist dollars.

Our representatives in Nepal have reported some of our projects such as classrooms, school toilets, water infrastructure and our other community development infrastructure have been badly damaged. NAFA is committed to assisting villages in our target areas for the long term and therefore we will be focussing on the repair and rebuilding of these communities.

We will continue to assess and monitor all our projects to ensure every dollar sent to Nepal is spent where it was intended. We will continue to keep our donors and supporters updated with reports and photos on our website on our various rebuilding projects.
