Aardvark is a not-for-profit organisation that uses the power of music to give young people living with illness or disability the opportunity to re-expand their identity and wellbeing through creative self-expression, skills development and collaboration. Aardvark's programs bring the young participants together with professional musicians and music therapists to write, record and perform original music.
Aardvark's programs are a transformative journey for the young people who take part, giving them the chance to develop their music skills, build their confidence, re-expand their identity, and inspire the wider community with their achievements.
In 2011, ARIA Award winning artists Wally De Backer (Gotye) and Monique Brumby mentored and collaborated with 10 young people to write and professionally record five original songs as part of The Aardvark Sessions 2011 program. The result is a collection of brilliant and inspiring songs spanning many genres that celebrate the achievements of these talented young musicians.
Some of the other artists who have been involved in Aardvark include: Missy Higgins, The Living End, Paul Dempsey, Borne, The Armada and David Bridie.
